Many people believe in God or Satan, and don’t believe in both. I, for one, think that if there is a good force in this world, there has to be an equally evil force. And to me, it is obvious that there is an evil force in this world. I’m not one, however, who blames everything that goes wrong on “the devil.” Some things are just coincidence, or are simply man’s choosing, and there is no spiritual force behind it at all. And sometimes bad things just happen. It’s just the luck of the draw. God is not to blame, Satan’s not to blame; it’s just that “shit happens.” The plus side is that no matter what calamity comes our way, God is there to get us through it.
Back to Satan. Yuck. I hate even saying that name, but I think it’s important to know who he is, and what the Bible says about him. Today I just want to throw out some quick facts, and another day I will talk more about his background. We know from the Bible that he deceived man all the way from Adam and Eve to the New Testament saints. We also read about, however, how Job, Daniel, and Jesus overcame him. We can overcome him, too. Eph 4:27 says it all: Neither give place to the devil. In other words, give no opportunity to the devil.
Well, that’s easier said than done, and I will have to devote an entire day to writing about that. Before I go, here’s one last interesting fact about the devil. The term Devil is derived from the Greek word DIABOLOS.
Thank you Lord, for giving me everything I need to overcome temptation. And thank you that no matter how many times I screw up anyway, you are always there ready to forgive me.
